Week 30 Georgian Easter
Well this week was pretty interesting. Monday we went out
with M and Y during Pday to shop with them and to eat Korean food. Although the
one day we wanted to go it was closed, so we went to Chinese instead and
it still was pretty good. Tuesday was a hard day for me and my companion. We were both pretty depressed that day, both for personal reasons. That day I
prayed pretty hard, a type of prayer I haven't done since the first week in the MTC. That prayer showed me the immediate goodness of God, because right after I prayed I felt so much better. I felt a little more motivated and the feeling I had
almost went away. That night when we were coming home from meeting we saw 2
corgis in a car. I know everyone is going to laugh at this, but for me it felt
like it was God trying to make me smile. I haven't seen a corgi since before I
left home. The timing was kinda perfect because if I wasn't in that very spot I
wouldn't have seen them. So for future reference: when life gets you down, God
will send corgis. We had exchanges this week and sister Myers showed me some places we could go knocking at and we met a former investigator. We were supposed to have a district
blitz (crazy finding time all together), but it was canceled since there wasn't
a lot of people on the streets. It was Easter weekend for Georgia and everyone
heads down to the სოფელი (village) to celebrate with their family. So the weekend
we barely saw anyone. That night we had a small concert from M and some of her
friends. They shared some traditional music from their country and it was so
cool, and some of the instruments were so different and unexpected. Very
beautiful though! Saturday we had a whiteboard activity with all the
missionaries. We took different shifts so we were with the Varketili Elders.
There weren't a lot of people out, mostly just tourists since this is the time to
come visit Georgia. I met someone that actually used to live in San Francisco and
they knew where Livermore was and had been. Such a small world! Sunday was Easter so we
didn't have a lot of people at church. That was basically the week. Before I
finish I wanted to share some Georgian Easter traditions. Here when they dye
eggs its not with different colors, just red representing Christ's blood. They
use the roots of this plant to do it and the color is a really dark red.
Then during the entire week they eat something called პასკა (paska). It is like
cake but more bready. I had some, it's pretty good, kinda dry but still good. Today
we are going to some Georgian museums with all the missionaries so that will be
fun. Our Pday was switched because a lot of historical places are closed on
Monday so once in a while they will switch Pday to Tuesday so we can go see
some things. I am excited!
Well that was the week, Until next time!
